Senior Analyst
Role
We are seeking an individual to work as a financial analyst, focused primarily on equities, within a boutique investment management firm. The position is designed as a full-time role (exempt status).
Location
The firm’s office is located in Larkspur, California. The Senior Analyst is required to reside proximate to the San Francisco / Bay Area. The position involves both in-office and remote work (i.e., a “hybrid” schedule). Domestic and international travel will be necessary, estimated at 4 to 8 weeks per year.
Reporting
This position will report to one of Seafarer’s Portfolio Managers.
Responsibilities
The Senior Analyst will be responsible for fundamental research and investment analysis on behalf of investment portfolios that are focused on global equity markets.
Specifically, the Senior Analyst will be responsible for conducting both qualitative and quantitative analyses, focusing on industrial analysis, business models, products and services, management quality, competitive advantages, and valuations for companies. Senior analysts are expected to concurrently manage several complex investment research projects.
Duties include:
- Perform fundamental research and investment analysis, and propose recommendations for prospective investments and/or existing investments.
- Assist in collecting and organizing information on companies and industries.
- Build financial and valuation screens/models, reflecting companies’ historical and forecast performance.
- Conduct meetings both onsite and offsite including with company management teams.
- Monitor performance of underlying companies in portfolios.
- Contribute to ad hoc research efforts, portfolio analyses and reviews, and market commentaries.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
This position requires:
- A minimum of 5 prior years of work experience in the investment management industry as a securities analyst.
- Advanced accounting skills.
- Strong, demonstrable understanding of corporate finance.
- Extensive familiarity with global financial markets, ideally with a focus on equities.
- Entrepreneurial bent; willingness to take initiative, and to work within a small company and a dynamic environment.
- Highest level of integrity and strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Problem-solving mentality and intellectual curiosity.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis.
The following are highly preferable, but not necessarily required for the position:
- Foreign language skills.
- Graduate degree (e.g., Master in Finance, Master in Business Administration).
- Chartered Financial Analyst designation, or substantial progress towards such designation.
- Knowledge of investment and research technologies, e.g. Bloomberg, AIM, Factset.
- Unique insight to global capital markets (e.g. area of graduate study or thesis).
- U.S. veterans / service background.
Compensation and Benefits
- Compensation includes base salary and semi-annual discretionary cash bonus. The pay range for this position is $187,000–$462,000; $338,250 is typical. The range is determined largely by individual performance and associated discretionary bonus.
- 401(k) Plan with a matching contribution from Seafarer.
- Equity incentive program. Seafarer is a 100% employee owned firm. Employees become eligible (but are not guaranteed) to participate in the Firm’s equity incentive program beginning one year after their start date.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage. Eligible dependents include spouse or registered domestic partner and children under 26 years of age. Employees have access to six medical plan options from United Healthcare (PPO) and Kaiser (HMO), dental coverage from Delta Dental, and vision coverage from Vision Service Plan (VSP). Seafarer covers a significant portion of the monthly premium costs. If an employee waives healthcare coverage, Seafarer shares premium savings with the employee.
